The West Virginia Family Planning Program, the only Federal Title X (ten) National Family Planning Program grantee in the State, provides reproductive and preventive health care to any person whose income is at or below 250% of the current federal poverty level. Contraceptive methods are provided free to all eligible clients; clinic examinations are either free or low-cost depending upon income and family size. Family Planning Program services are available at clinics in every West Virginia county including local health departments, primary care centers, hospital and medical school clinics, college student health centers and private practices. Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program
Promotes early detection of breast and cervical cancer through screening, follow-up services and education to low income families.
Components:
  • Breast and cervical cancer screening is available in all 55 counties of the state through county health departments, primary care centers, hospital out-patient centers, and private practice facilities -- a total of 159 sites. Women who are eligible are referred to one of the 72 participating mammography facilities for a free mammogram.
  • Outreach efforts encourage women above the age of 50 to be screened for breast and cervical cancer.
  • Women above the age of 25 are eligible to be screened for cervical cancer.
  • Educational opportunities are offered for service providers to receive additional training and skill enhancement related to the detection and treatment of breast and cervical cancer.
  • A state funded Breast and Cervical Cancer Diagnostic and Treatment Fund provides financial assistance for some diagnostic and treatment procedures for medically indigent women.
